Cartouche

A little protection for your thoughts.

In ancient Egypt, the names of pharaohs were enclosed within an oval frame known as a cartouche. More than a decorative border, it was a symbol of protection, intended to safeguard the royal name for eternity.

Our Cartouche takes its inspiration from this simple idea. A writing instrument designed to protect the thoughts and ideas that we choose to put on paper.

Lightweight and understated, the Cartouche is designed to travel easily. Available in a range of colours, its anodised aluminium cap has a smooth, tactile finish and is designed to keep the weight to a minimum. A precision-machined stainless steel grip then adds a little weight where it matters, creating a comfortable balance in the hand.

The grip is engraved with a delicate pattern inspired by papyrus, a quiet reference to Egypt and early writing. At the end of the grip is a small seal engraving of our whippet, while a disc of

natural mother-of-pearl is inlaid into the end of the cap. Each adds a little character to the Cartouche.

But protection goes beyond the symbolism.

Nitrile sealing rings create a water-resistant seal while limiting evaporation, maintaining a humid environment around the nib to reduce the risk of ink drying between uses. A capillary insert within the cap absorbs excess ink should an unexpected knock cause any to escape.

Available as both a fountain pen and a rollerball, the Cartouche is a pen designed to accompany you anywhere – and with a small link to the history of the written word, we hope it will keep safe whatever you choose to write.
